Red Robot Systems, which designs bespoke business software solutions at its site on Brunel Road, contacted Tees Valley Business Compass after finding the service online, and was given advice on the support available.

The company, which works with companies such as Axiom Engineering Associates Ltd, Agile Group Ltd and Green Marine Solutions Ltd, was awarded more than £5,600 towards developing a new brand and website for a range of out the box software tools the three-strong team is developing.

The grant was made from the Tees Valley Growth Fund, which supports businesses growth to create jobs, which can include consultancy and specialist advice, and support for companies to take part in overseas trade fairs. The fund, which is part of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) can contribute up to 33% towards a project and the average grant is £11,000.

The firm’s new MYBE software has been designed to provide a wide range of useful business tools and applications that fit around everyday business operations and administrative functions, meaning that all back office operations can be controlled from one application.

Red Robot Systems Director, Stephen Harrington, said: “This is a different model and different market to what we do now, which is why we decided on a new brand and site. But to do that, we needed financial support. The Tees Valley Business Compass was really helpful from the moment we contacted them. The team there took the time to understand our business and our future plans, and have provided the perfect amount of support.

“We are excited about launching MYBE and we have a load of ideas of where we want to take this range of products. We can’t wait to share it with everyone and find out what people think, and this wouldn’t be possible without the support received from Tees Valley Business Compass.”

Neil MacGillivray, Growth Consultant for the Tees Valley Business Compass, said: “Red Robot was a perfect example of a business that had great aspirations but just needed a little boost to help it realise them. We are firm supporters of businesses that make game changing decisions, and this was an opportunity we are proud to back.

“The Tees Valley Growth fund can support up to 33% of growth projects for businesses in the boroughs of Middlesbrough, Stockton, Darlington, Redcar & Cleveland, and Hartlepool, which fall within the ERDF rules. In addition to this Tees Valley Business Compass can help companies with support for broadband connectivity, energy efficiency and innovation.”

It helps ambitious businesses realise their growth potential by offering access to a range of practical services, from local business information, assessing growth options through to unlocking finance and funding streams. The growth hub is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund and the department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy.
